DAILY BRIEFING/

Agents meet the security review.

GitHub expands AI security scans and agentic fixes. Open-source gh-aw adds safer workflow inspection; new research examines what agents miss.

Repositories to try

Open-source projects with a concrete reason to pay attention.

The license badges apply to the linked software. Model providers, commercial agents and hosted services may have separate access requirements and costs.

01
Agentic workflow review

github/gh-aw

15 Oct · v0.92.1New capabilityMIT

A CLI extension converts Markdown agent instructions to GitHub Actions workflows without needing inference to compile.

What’s new

The v0.92.0–v0.92.1 releases tighten model-routing and patch integrity, add an offline skill reader, and improve work-queue diagnostics.

Why it matters

Inspect permissions and selected model routing before giving an agent repository access; no model API spend for the offline review.

Try it

Use gh aw skill and gh aw compile --dry-run in a disposable Git folder; shellcheck required.

03

Beyond the coding window

Context, execution and the infrastructure around agents.

GitHub / 15 Oct
Generally available

AI Scan for pull requests

An AI security checker finds flaws in changed PHP, Shell, Terraform and other code outside CodeQL's coverage.

What’s new

Generally available for public repositories; private organization repositories require Code Security or Advanced Security. Findings are advisory.

Why it matters

Broadens the review but does not replace CodeQL, tests or manual checks. Metered Code Security AI Credits may apply; do not enable without a budget check.

No Copilot license required. It does not scan forks or Dependabot PRs.

GitHub / 15 Oct
Enterprise general availability

Agentic autofix for security alerts

A coding agent investigates a CodeQL security alert, edits related files, reruns the scanner and prepares a draft fix PR.

What’s new

GitHub made the workflow GA for Enterprise Cloud with Code Security/Advanced Security, after admin activation.

Why it matters

Checks a fix rather than merely suggesting one, but needs human review; not accessible via this personal free workflow.

Requires Copilot billing method, Code Security AI Credits and GitHub Actions minutes; not activated.

Microsoft / 15 Oct
Frontier rollout

Copilot Studio agent accounts and memory

Managed business-process agents use their own identities and remember process context across interactions.

What’s new

Microsoft announced separate agent accounts, shared process memory and triggers in its GitHub Copilot harness.

Why it matters

Identity and retained context could make long-running enterprise delegation auditable; not a free/open-source coding model.

Staged Frontier rollout; some features upcoming. Personal free availability unverified.

EvoProbe: evolving agent benchmarks

EvoProbe: Evaluation-Driven Benchmark Evolution for LLM Agents

Qianhong Guo, Wei Xie, Xiaofang Cai, Shuoyoucheng Ma, Chengxin Hu, Baosheng Wang

Feedback from agent failures is used to regenerate more revealing executable benchmark tasks.

Key finding

Across two rounds, 66 validated cybersecurity tasks and eight models, updated tasks lowered average outcome 11.8% and consistent three-run success 40.0%, under the specified controls.

Why it matters

Capture failure traces and adapt evals; a static pass rate misses bottlenecks.

Keep in mind

Two rounds and one generated cybersecurity setting; not proof across production agents.

Tau-Emotion-Bench: emotionally difficult agent tasks

τ-Emotion-Bench: Exposing the Interaction Fragility of LLM Agents through Real-World User Emotions

Rishitosh Kumar Singh, Amir Saeidi, Shamanthak Hegde, Shrinidhi Kumbhar, Chitta Baral

An agent benchmark varies a simulated user's emotional response while holding the tool-based objective steady.

Key finding

Authors report that dissatisfied-user interactions expose reliability failures missed by calm, cooperative simulations.

Why it matters

Score completion and interaction quality under impatient or frustrated users.

Keep in mind

Simulated users in ten controlled domains may not generalize to real customers.

Try today’s experiment

One practical experiment from today’s briefing.

TODAY’S LAB · 20–30 minutes

Try github/gh-aw: offline skill and safe dry-run compile

Inspect gh-aw's offline skill and compile a small read-only agent workflow using --dry-run; never dispatch it.

Why it helps Check permissions and routing without paying for inference or running GitHub Actions.

Open the step-by-step guide
  1. 01

Install MIT-licensed gh-aw and inspect its offline skill.

  2. 02

Create an isolated, read-only Markdown workflow.

  3. 03

Compile with --dry-run and inspect generated YAML; score warnings and permissions.

Git, GitHub CLI, shellcheck, disposable personal folder; no API key or billed inference.

Official release and CLI docs reviewed 16 October; no commands, Actions or model experiment executed.
